EMERGENCY WATER MAIN REPAIR - ACTON ROAD

WIS recently responded to a significant emergency leak on a DN508 MSCL water main located more than 6 metres below Acton Road overpass, on the north side of the Tasman Highway.

The failure resulted in substantial ground washout beneath the road embankment, creating a complex and challenging repair environment.  WIS mobilised quickly with the required personnel, heavy plant and specialist equipment to excavate and establish safe access to the leak location.

The works involved extensive excavation and dewatering, installation of a 4.0m x 2.4m x 2.5m trench shield combined with trench battering, controlled exposure of the water main, specialist welding repairs, protective coating reinstatement, and progressive backfilling and reconstruction of the affected embankment and roadway.

Working closely with TasWater, our crews continued across day and night shifts to safely complete the repair and restore the site in less than 48 hours.

A great team effort and a strong demonstration of WIS’s capability to respond quickly and safely to complex emergency infrastructure works.
